Wedding Wednesday: Katie Plans the Wedding in One Post

I know it may seem otherwise, but wedding planning is very stressful. I know, I know, from reading this blog you've probably gathered that it is a walk in the park. WELL IT'S NOT. Something ALWAYS goes wrong when it comes to weddings, turning what should be a lovely, fun process into a nightmare. After this past weekend, in which we went home to take care of some wedding plans, several people, Matt included, have told me to "chill out." Literally, everyone has used those exact words. Well, I am taking their advice and as of Sunday I will be starting a "treat yo'self" week. Until then, I have decided to solve my problems by planning the rest of the major details in one single post. Let's go!

Cake: Everybody likes funfetti, right? Good. Cause that's what you're getting.

Ceremony Music: Are musicians really necessary? I'm just going to take my Love, Actually soundtrack and put it on repeat. BOOM. Problem solved.

Favors: Forget about sticking labels on 200 mason jars and tying them with ribbons. I'm getting a pinata and filling it with candy.

Menu: You can get a really great deal at taco bell when you buy soft tacos in bulk. Vegetarian option included!

Flowers: This one is tricky. I could turn my bridesmaids loose and let them scavenge the local gardens, but my wedding is in December. So, instead I will turn them loose at the local Christmas tree farm. They can take all the small, Charlie Brown trees that no one else wants and carry them around as bouquets. Bonus--they will smell like Christmas!

Invitations: Two words: Facebook invite. If people don't have Facebook, then they don't exist, and if they don't exist, then they can't really make an appearance at our wedding.

Ceremony readings: So simple. I'm going to open the Bible at random, close my eyes, and point. Ta-dah!

Well, look at that! In just ten minutes I've made some major progress on the wedding plans. I'm positive Matt will love all of my ideas. In fact, I'm positive EVERYONE will love my ideas.

I'm sure you're looking at all of those ideas and thinking they are foolproof, but I'm sure something is bound to go disastrously wrong. When that happens, I'll let you know, but in the meantime...TREAT YO SELF!

Save the Date Mania

I am in the midst of a fake calligraphy storm. Long before I deliberated over our Save the Date options, I worried more about addressing those Save the Dates. In my opinion, I don't have the prettiest handwriting. I certainly can't write in cursive worth a lick, and the best I've ever been able to do, in terms of beautifying my strokes, is add some polka dots to each letter and call it a day.

As you can see, it's not much to look at, and seeing as how I've obsessively agonized over every detail of the wedding thus far, my handwriting skills were no exception.

Enter Pinterest. Pinterest typically gives me unrealistic expectations of how my wedding will look, but this time they saved the day. I stumbled upon a pin entitled "how to fake calligraphy." FAKE something artistic?!? Sounds right up my alley!
Thank you, Something Charming!

I practiced for a couple of days, then just jumped right in, as soon as the save the dates arrived. I've never considered myself to be capable of artsy feats, so I'm quite pleased with how the addresses have turned out. It's definitely not perfect, but as I write I like to tell myself "I'm an artist. I can't be confined by lines, and rules, and society's standards of perfection." Here's a sample of my work (which seriously is not my best):
Duh. I know our fearless HP no longer lives on Privet Dr, but I have high hopes our Save the Date will be forwarded to his most current residence....with Ginny Weasley.
Now that the envelopes are all addressed, it's time to choose a stamp! Although they lack many admirable qualities, the Post Office has a whole section on their website dedicated to wedding/love-themed stamps.
As alluring as that stamp may be, it's hard to make a decision, especially when there are so many other tempting options:
Good ole' Sammy Clemens!
And there's also this choice to consider:
American Scientists!
Some people who read this may think I am joking. Well, I'm not. I have serious plans to run over to the post office and purchase all the Mark Twain stamps they have in stock.

Now you're thinking, which stamp did I choose?!?!? Well, you all have to wait for the highly anticipated Save the Date reveal!

Wedding Wednesday: First Fitting!

This past weekend, my parents came to town and my mom and I went to have my first dress fitting!!!!And, it wasn't a disaster at all! Ok, so I wasn't expecting it to be a disaster, I was looking forward to it and the whole experience was very exciting. The dress was even more beautiful than I remembered, and my mom and I also picked out a veil that works perfectly with the detailing on the dress. However, I was super stressed the week before because my wedding shoes had not yet arrived (we ordered them online). Luckily, these beauties arrived Friday afternoon, just in the nick of time:
Yes, you do get to see a picture of my wedding shoes. Consider it a teaser before the dress reveal.

I picked up my wedding shoes right before I journeyed to Nordstrom to purchase my "foundations" (that's a fancy word for underwear/spanx). This was also overwhelming to me, since I had a million choices, and as it turns out the style I ended up purchasing will not work out, because it shows through on one section of the dress. So, back to the drawing board on that one (and $80 down the drain, vom!). If I had a dollar for every time something went wrong in this wedding planning process, I'd have enough money to hire someone to do it for me.

All in all, lots of exciting things-are-getting-real moments are happening right now. Today, our Save the Dates arrived and they look SPECTACULAR! Hold your horses, you'll get a picture of those soon enough.

You can expect many more posts from me this month, and many more meltdowns as TBD draws ever closer.

A Triumphant Return

I have returned to the world of blogging! Believe it or not, I have been busy doing actual wedding planning and actual work, so I have had zero time available to type up these posts.

You can dry your tears now, because I've got great news! ENGAGEMENT PICTURES HAVE ARRIVED!!!! And we are quite pleased with ourselves. Who know we would make such great models?

Take note, Victoria's Secret models

This is just one of many pictures that were our favorites. Honestly, we could no sooner choose a favorite star in the heavens....and these are just the engagement pictures! Can you imagine what the wedding pictures will look like? No, seriously, can you imagine? Because I can't. It just completely blows my mind.

I could take the time to insert several more pictures from our photo shoot, but I have been pretty lazy lately. Luckily for me, Elizabeth and Rick put together this awesome slideshow of our pictures, which makes viewing the whole gallery easier than cooking chicken tacos. Or, if you're really dedicated (and by "dedicated" I mean that you are a stalker), then you can scroll through all the pictures at your leisure here.

Enjoy!
