Love, Loss, Hope Repeat

As I mentioned yesterday, I'm at a conference for work this week, and when I sat down last night to check over today's post, I realized I didn't have one scheduled. This seemed appropriate, because when I logged onto Blogger I had intended to either start over or edit what I had to reflect events that happened this morning.

Early yesterday, in the area I called home for over 20 years, a domestic violence incident left four people dead and one in the hospital. The victims included a mother, grandmother, and 17 year old student at my alma mater, as well as the gunman. The grandfather survived and is in fair condition.

My heart breaks all over again every time I see mention of this on social media. I did not know the family personally, but it's a small, tight-knit community, and I know plenty of people for whom this tragedy cuts deeply. The details are still unclear at this point, but for once no one is hopping on Facebook to rant about this law or that law that must be passed to prevent such things from happening. For now, all anyone can seem to do is hope and pray for strength, comfort, and healing to the victims' family and friends.

I have no other post for you today--I simply ask that you keep this family and our community in your thoughts and prayers. These types of events always shatter us to our core, and remind us that life is fleeting and fragile. Take some time to appreciate all the love in your life--it is a gift  that is not guaranteed to us from one day to the next.

Paz y Amor,
